I was in a training session at work yesterday and couldn't help staring at the presenter's pinstriped trousers ... I thought they looked really tacky. The combination of her trousers, plus an incongruous (sp) flowery jersey top, and ill-fitting heels really put me off pinstripes. Granted, what's pictured here is a drool-worthy Nanette Lapore pinstriped suit that I wouldn't mind wearing on any day, pinstripes usually don't bode well with me. What about the rest of you? What are your opinions on the pinstriped suit - on both men and women?
I think I've got mixed feelings - that's why I posted this poll. I've got a pair of pinstriped pants from Topshop that I love, but the stripes are very very light, similar to the ones in the picture above. But the woman who was wearing them yesterday had more pronounced, white stripes - and the cut of the pants wasn't tailored enough. I've seen some men on the tube wearing lovely pinstriped suits as well. But I've seen some that are pretty cheap and tacky looking too. So I'm split, I think!
Yeah I prefer the thin stripes, a subtle pinstripe. I agree that some can look really cheap. I have a pair of charcoal wide leg pants with a very subtle white pinstripe and I love them!
I like pinstripes, especially on pants. It's trickier to to them from head to toe.
Most of the time I think they're really chic and work well for women. But the clothing has to fit and be cut right.
And too much pinstripe can be bad (i.e. the pants, different kind of pinstriped jacket and a hat with a pinstripe - NO).
I also think that pinstripes can only be against a dark charcoal gray or black. On any other color it looks terrible. I've seen light-colored DENIM with pinstripes. Ewww, NO. A cropped pinstripe waistcoat can also be cute, I think.

I love pinstripes, if worn properly. I think they are classy and stylish.
